OG Fortnite Review
The Ups and Downs of OG Fortnite

The long-awaited return of OG Fortnite is finally back for the second time, but this time, it is here to stay. When the OG season left after the first return, fans started demanding that it come back as soon as possible, and thankfully, it seems they got their wish. It is the ultimate feeling of nostalgia going all the way back to the very beginning, to the creation of Fortnite in 2017, and so far, it has not disappointed. While this return has brought tremendous excitement to returning players, not everyone feels the same way.
The return of the OG season of Fortnite has brought back all of the older features that players missed, and this time, it went back even further before the game took off.
This classic experience includes the beloved original map with fan-favorite POIs like Retail Row, Greasy Grove, and Salty Springs. Alongside the classic map, the loot pool has so many excited players looking for the familiar favorites, the Scar and the original Pump, to give them that edge to win the game. The return of all familiar items, locations, and weapons is a trip down memory lane for all players who started in Fortnite’s early season. The cherished memories alone are enough to bring an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia to any player returning for this season. OG Fortnite is all about returning to the basics without any complicated features that could confuse new players. This style appeals to both veteran and new players alike who want to experience the very beginning of the rise of Fortnite. Player engagement has also seen a jump with the return of OG Fortnite due to the return of the old map and gameplay that we all know and love. Streamers and influencers who left Fortnite have come flocking back to make their original content of the classic experience, and the ones who stayed the whole time are having the time of their lives going back to where they found their passion for content creation. The community response has been overwhelmingly positive, with so many players thankful for the permanent return or for their first experience that they missed out on.
While most reviews have been positive, not everyone feels the same way. Bringing back older content in games can sometimes delay it from creating new and fresh ideas and feeling repetitive. Without creating new content, players can get bored and start looking for other games to play. In the current state of OG Fortnite, some players are saying it feels repetitive if you were around for the original season, and the OG Fortnite return last year and going back to old loot and locations reduce how much fun they have. Many balance issues have also arisen with this return, trying to mesh the older and newer playstyles into the new mechanics the game has added over the years. Numerous players have complained about wanting everything more original, stating they want the old movement and building system, as that is what the original map had. Also, because of these newer mechanics, there is a very noticeable skill gap between returning players and the players who never left, and the only fix Fortnite has for that is the controversial addition of skill-based matchmaking. Then, there is also the problem of the lack of decent loot in this current state of OG Fortnite. Most of the time, finding any shields is exceedingly rare, and without shields, it is pretty much game over if you come up against a competent player that happens to have a shield. The newer players are not used to this style and try to reduce the skill gap by playing the Zero Build mode, only to find out the map was not made with Zero Build in mind, and the environment is highly unforgiving if you find yourself out of position. There are problems with any new addition to any game, but with Fortnite’s track record, I am confident these issues will be resolved in the seasons to come in OG Fortnite
.
The return of OG Fortnite was long-awaited, and so far, it has delivered on the promise of nostalgia and fun. There will be many pros and cons with any new content added, but I believe Fortnite did what the players wanted, and they can continue to evolve and please both new and returning players alike. What are your thoughts on the return of OG Fortnite? Did it deliver everything you thought it would be, or is it time for it to stay a cherished memory and move on to something new?
